William Binney Fairbanks, Q. C.

Bill Fairbanks was born in Springhill on the 1st of November, 1940. He attended school in Springhill and Amherst and graduated from Mount Allison University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He obtained a Law Degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1968 and since graduation has practised law in Amherst. He was awarded a Queens Council in 1985. During college years, Bill joined the Canadian Officer Training Corps and took infantry training, obtaining an Officer’s Commission in 1962. This programme helped finance his college education. Over the years Bill has been interested in various community activities. For example, he is past president of the Amherst Township Historical Society in which he continues to play an active role. He is a Past President of the Chignecto Naturalists Club and remains a member of that organization. During Amherst Centennial Celebrations, his contribution was the design of the Sundial at the Town Hall. His hobbies include history, boating, music, nature and Botany. He has served 3 terms as an Amherst Town Councillor. From 1974 to 2001, he has held the position of Registrar of Probate for Cumberland County. In 1973 he married Sylvia Davis and they have two children, Benjamin, a lawyer, and Heidi, a nurse practitioner. Among the areas of practice in which he has extensive experience are: Real Estate, Family Law, Corporate Law and Wills and Estates.
